A Life of Innovation
In 1982, inspired by the success of Uno, Ken set out to create a card game that could stand alongside the world’s most recognizable family games. After spending just a few days developing the concept in his apartment, he created what would become Phase 10. His earliest customers included major retailers such as K-Mart and Meijer.
In 1987, Ken licensed the manufacturing and distribution rights to Phase 10 and began receiving royalties from worldwide sales. Today, the game is produced by Mattel, one of the largest toy companies in the world, with millions of games sold annually across more than 30 countries. Phase 10 has become the second best-selling card game in the world and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022.
In recognition of his impact on the toy and game industry, Ken was nominated for a TAGIE Award in 2012, often referred to as the “Oscars” of the toy and game world.
Based in Southeast Michigan with his wife and son, Ken owns and operates several businesses and continues to inspire audiences through speaking engagements across the country. He has been a guest speaker for inventor clubs, universities, civic organizations, youth groups, and entrepreneurial events, where he shares his experience, insight, and passion for innovation. Through his work, Ken remains committed to supporting inventors, entrepreneurs, and the next generation of creative thinkers.
